Safeguarding

At Thurlstone Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children. We believe that every child has the right to feel safe, happy, and valued, and we work hard to create an environment where all children can thrive.

Our school ethos — “Grow together, learn together, feel loved” — lies at the heart of everything we do. We want every child to feel secure, cared for, and supported so they can reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, governors, and volunteers share a commitment to protecting our children from harm and ensuring their well-being. We follow the statutory guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to promote the safety and happiness of every child.

We have clear policies and procedures in place for:

  • Child protection and safeguarding
  • Safer recruitment of staff and volunteers
  • Online safety
  • Managing concerns and disclosures

Our Designated Safeguarding Leaders (DSL) are Mrs Charlotte Gibbins and Mrs Zoe Baker (co-headteachers)
Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) is Mrs Louise Stokoe
Our Safeguarding Governor is Dr Nicky Shaw.

If you have any concerns about a child’s welfare, please contact a member of the safeguarding team via the school office on 01226 762018 or email school.office@thurlstoneprimary.co.uk.

If you think a child is in danger, call 999 or South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020.

If you’re concerned about a child, but they’re not in immediate danger, please share the information with Barnsley Social Care as soon as possible on 01226 772423.

At Thurlstone Primary School, we take pride in being a caring, inclusive community where every child can grow together, learn together, and feel loved.
